Are you WIDE awake?

There are moments when you want to be WIDE awake.  You know, like when you’re driving late at night and being wide awake is a matter of life or death.

But what about those moments when you don’t want to be wide wake?

Derek didn’t sleep for five years. Correct. I said FIVE YEARS. He barely slept.

blog4At night, when the world was quiet, his internal world was a constant symphony of brutal noise, caused by a disease that went undiagnosed.

When we finally discovered he had S.S.C.D. we knew why he was up all night. He could hear his heart beat, his neck muscles every time he moved, and he could even hear his food digesting!

You can see the misery on his face. This used to be the look when he tried to sleep.

Unlike my heroic husband, I didn’t have anything structurally wrong me, so I assumed I didn’t have sleep issues.

I was wrong.

I relied on a glass of wine each night to help me fall asleep. And though I may have been sleeping, I woke up exhausted. The years of stress left me fatigued, anxious, short-fused, and sharp-tongued to my family.

I know we weren’t alone. In the United States, 50-70 million adults have problems with the quality or quantity of their sleep. That’s a whole lot of sleepless nights and staring at the ceiling or counting sheep all night long.

This is why I love to serve and share my resources and solutions—because so many are suffering.

Science shows just how important sleep is to our mental and physical health, as well as our overall well-being. Poor sleep leaves us feeling exhausted and interferes with mood and mental function. We feel angry, irritable, or overwhelmed; we lack energy or motivation; we skip workouts and then yell at our kids and family.

In my search for solutions, after trying anything and everything from melatonin, to medication and even sound machines, NOTHING worked. It was when I came across ancient Chinese medicine used for thousands of years that I finally found a solution that has drastically changed our lives. What’s funny to me is that the answer is found in something that has surrounded me my whole life as I lived in farm country: CORN!

Ingredient_1

What? Well, technically, it’s not corn, but non-GMO CORN GRASS (so don’t think eating a serving of corn counts—it doesn’t; this is different) that encourages our bodies to naturally produce their own melatonin, which helps us fall asleep faster (without wine!), stay asleep longer, and spend more time in REM sleep (for brain rejuvenation) and deep sleep (for body rejuvenation). We also found that 5-HTP (5 Hydroxytryptophan) helps decrease the time it takes fall asleep, and we wake up less frequently.

We went from pure chronic exhaustion throughout the day, to waking up BEFORE our alarm clock!

We are so thankful to have found a natural remedy that has allowed us to both—finally—get real, restful sleep! But we aren’t alone here either.

My editor, executive assistant, and friend, Linda, hadn’t slept through the night for years and years. She would either wake up at 1:30 a.m. and then be awake for at least 1.5 hours or she’d sleep until about 3:30 a.m. and be awake for the day. I shared the same remedy with her and that’s changed. She either sleeps through the night or is able to fall back to sleep. Plus, she started dreaming again, which means she is getting good sleep. As the self-proclaimed queen of naps, she still likes naps, but doesn’t need to nap.

Here are some other tips I have learned to help you get ready for bed:

You cannot fight disease, function properly, or be productive if you are counting sheep all night.  For more information on what I use for sleep, contact me today!

I’d love to pioneer forward with you!
